What Options Are Available for Treating Chipped Teeth

At White River Dental, we offer a comprehensive range of cosmetic and restorative dentistry treatments, all of which can be customized to your unique needs and goals. The treatment or combination of treatments that is best suited to you will depend on several factors, including on whether the nature of your chip is primarily cosmetic or whether it is threatening the health of the tooth. Our dentists spend ample time with patients to ensure that they are satisfied with their treatment plans before moving forward.

The options available for treating chipped teeth include:

  • Porcelain veneers: Porcelain veneers are an exceptional method of concealing chips in front teeth. These thin porcelain shells are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth, where they can also conceal any other aesthetic flaws such as discoloration and imperfections in shape or size. Because porcelain is translucent like tooth enamel, veneers are remarkably natural looking.
  • Dental bonding: Dental bonding involves the application of a composite resin material to the teeth. When this material hardens, it conceals chips and other flaws, much like porcelain veneers. Unlike porcelain, composite resin is not translucent and therefore not quite as natural looking. However, dental bonding still produces excellent results and is generally less expensive than porcelain veneers.
  • Tooth-colored fillings: For relatively minor chips, tooth-colored fillings provide an aesthetically pleasing, mercury-free alternative to the silver amalgam fillings of the past.
  • Dental crowns: For premolars and molars that have chips too large to support tooth-colored fillings, custom-crafted dental crowns may provide the ideal solutions. Dental crowns replicate the entire visible surface area of a tooth, protecting the natural tooth from further damage.

Everyone was very professional, yet very laid back, making an unpleasant procedure much easier to have done. The follow-up call from the doctor showed that he cares about his patients. Stephanie C.
