It’s common for adults to lose a tooth at some point. And whether from disease or an accident, it’s not uncommon to lose more. To replace these teeth, two options are available: dentures and dental implants.

Dental implants are titanium posts that are screwed into the jawbone and which replace a tooth’s root. They provide a permanent solution to lost teeth.

Dentures, on the other hand, are trays that fit over the gums and simulate teeth. They are not permanent and must be removed daily to allow the gums time to heal from the day’s wear tear. Dentures come in two varieties: complete and partial. Complete dentures replace all the teeth while partial dentures replace only a few teeth.

Top Four Reasons Dental Implants are Better than Dentures

Out of the two options, implants are the superior for multiple reasons. The top four reasons why implants are better than dentures are:

  1. Dental implants provide a secure base for teeth. Dentures are notorious for slipping, and some people have trouble talking and eating with them. Implants, however, provide a stable base in the jawbone, which makes eating, speaking, and caring for the replacement teeth they support a much more normal experience.
  2. Implants provide better aesthetics . Although the appearance of dentures has improved over time, their acrylic base does not look like the natural gumline. But implants allow for crowns, which are essentially indistinguishable from natural teeth. From a cosmetic dentistry standpoint, implants look more natural.
  3. Implants foster better oral health. The titanium implants over time will actually fuse with the jawbone, and they’ll help prevent bone decay. They also help preserve the health of gum tissue, and they allow for easier oral hygiene. Dentures do none of these things. They do not assist with bone health, and they can actually attribute to gum disease if food becomes trapped under them.
  4. Implants are cost-effective, long-term solutions. Although they are initially more expensive than dentures, implants require less maintenance and better preserve oral health than dentures, thereby providing better quality of life and saving people who have the implants the cost of maintaining their dentures and the expense of possible future medical issues.

Everyone was very professional, yet very laid back, making an unpleasant procedure much easier to have done. The follow-up call from the doctor showed that he cares about his patients. Stephanie C.
