Same Day Dental Crowns – Columbus, IN

What is a Crown and When Might You Need One?

A dental crown is a custom-made “cap” that we place over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, strength, size, or appearance. It fully covers the visible portion of your tooth down to the gum line. Crowns serve several purposes, including:

  • Strengthening a weakened or damaged tooth
  • Restoring your ability to chew and speak normally
  • Improving the appearance of a discolored or misshapen tooth
  • Protecting a tooth from future decay or fracture
  • Preventing bacteria from invading after a root canal

In the past, it took several weeks to get a custom crown made because impressions had to be taken, then sent to the lab for the crown to be made. After it was completed, it was sent back to your dentist. At White River Dental, we now offer same-day crowns that are custom-fabricated right here in our office for a custom fit, durability, and natural appearance.*

*Some crowns may need to be sent to a lab if they are considered a special case or are on anterior teeth

When You Might Need a Dental Crown

We may recommend a same-day crown if you have any of the following problems with one or more of your teeth:

  • A cracked or broken tooth
  • A cavity too large for a filling
  • A fragile tooth following a root canal
  • A crown as a restoration for a dental implant
  • As a cosmetic correction for a discolored or misshapen tooth
  • As a support for a dental bridge
  • To add strength to a weakened tooth

We Provide Same-Day Crowns with CEREC®

CEREC® is the latest innovation in same-day crowns. The CEREC system allows us to take digital impressions without using goopy, uncomfortable dental putty. Instead, digital images captured with a tiny intraoral camera create a 3D impression, which our in-house milling machine uses to fabricate your same-day crown in just minutes. Once finished, we place your finished crown the same day, eliminating the need for multiple appointments.

What is CEREC and What Are Its Benefits?

What is CEREC? CEREC is an acronym…

  • Chairside:The technology is in the dental operatory and used while you are in the chair
  • Economical:The procedure is economical for both the dentist and the patient.
  • Restorations:The procedure restores your tooth to its natural beauty, function, and strength
  • Esthetic:The restorations are metal-free and tooth-colored
  • Ceramic:High-strength ceramics are used that are close in composition to your natural tooth structure

CEREC is a method of creating a same-day crown used by thousands of dentists worldwide, not only to replace fillings, but also to restore any tooth that is decayed, weakened, broken, etc., to its natural strength and beauty. Better yet, it’s done with all-ceramic, tooth-colored materials in a single appointment!

The CEREC process lets you get a same-day crown at our office rather than waiting weeks while wearing a temporary crown. Because we use digital imaging to create the crown, your CEREC crown will be more comfortable and accurate than a crown made from a conventional impression.

What is CEREC used for?

CEREC Inlay Restoration

Often, patients with amalgam fillings will exhibit amalgam breakdowns and damage to the tooth structure as recurrent decay creates stress fractures on the enamel. Unlike most laboratory-created crowns, CEREC inlay restorations stabilize the integrity of the tooth. CEREC materials ensure maximum bond strength and enhance appearance, resulting in your desired smile. CEREC inlay restorations form a smooth, tooth-colored replacement of dental material lost to cavities. Using ultramodern CAD/CAM technology, CEREC inlays mimic your tooth’s color and structure exactly.

CEREC Onlay Restorations

Silver amalgam restorations regularly result in unsightly crowns and the necessity of replacement over time from recurrent decay. Rather than replace the old amalgam, CEREC onlays are placed on the tooth to retain the original structure and create a more natural look. Onlays, or partial crowns, are more extensive than inlays, and cover the bumps on the tooth surface. The enamel-like material of CEREC mimics the appearance and feel of real teeth.

CEREC Crowns

Patients who lose fillings often need replacement crowns, which can take up to three appointments to fill in. CEREC, however, mirrors the appearance and feel of a normal tooth and only requires one visit to install. Crowns, or tooth-shaped caps placed over teeth, restore the damaged tooth to its original shape, strength, size or appearance. CEREC crowns preserve a healthy tooth structure while restoring your natural smile.

Multiple Restorations

In the past, patients with multiple failed restorations typically required several appointments to achieve a full restoration. With CEREC, however, multiple inlays and onlays can be fabricated, bonded, polished and installed at once. CEREC technology completes the multiple restorations in one visit, resulting in a beautiful smile in a fraction of the time.
